Serena Malfi

Mezzo soprano

Serena Malfi was born in Aversa, Italy in 1985. She studied singing with Francesca Zurzolo and Carlo Desideri at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 2006 she made her debut as Miss Baggott in Britten's The Little Sweep, in a production from the San Carlo Opera House, Naples performed at the Auditorium of the RAI in Naples and subsequently performed at the Ravello Festival. In 2007 she was admitted to a course at the Opera Studio of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia held by Renata Scotto from which she gained a bursary to continue her studies.

In August 2008 she took part in a bel canto concert in Canada with June Anderson and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano. In September, at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia she took part in a bel canto course given by the tenor Raúl Giménez and the pianist Angelo Michele Errico. She is continuing her vocal studies with Raúl Giménez.

In September 2009 she made her debut as Ofelia in Salieri's La Grotta di Trofonio in Winterthur in a project with the Zurich Opera. She followed this by making a highly successful debut as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Zurich during December 2009 and January 2010.

She made her debut in Italy as Ferdinando in Pergolesi's opera, Flaminio at the Jesi Pergolesi Festival in June. This will be followed by her debut as Angelina in La Cenerentola at the Wildbad Festival in July 2010.

Future engagements include Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Theatre Champs Elysees, Paris and Annio in La Clemenza di Tito at the Teatro Real Madrid.
