RNO Puts on Three Spring Humanitarian Concerts

The RNO’s traditional series of philanthropic concerts, sponsored by Chevron Neftegaz, Inc., featured three performances in April.

The first two, on April 25 and 26, took place in the Museum of the War of 1812, and the Museum of Moscow, respectively. The first was for children and teenagers with developmental issues, and the second was for children from the Moscow Children’s Home No. 25.

Both groups heard a performance by the Ensemble of RNO Soloists that included works by Tchaikovsky: “Snowdrop,” from his Seasonscycle; “Melodrama” from music composed for Ostrovsky’s fairy tale, The Snowmaiden, “Russian Dance” from Swan Lake, and a waltz from his Serenade for String Orchestra. The ensemble also performed some melodies from popular fairy tales.

The third concert in the series was dedicated to the memory of those who perished in the Chernobyl disaster of April 25, 1986. It took place in the Vryubel Hall of the State Tretyakov Gallery, and was attended by family members of those who died as a result of Chernobyl.

Performing this concert was the RNO ensemble Four Strings + Double Bass, and their program contained works by Bach, Vivaldi, Telemann, Cimarosa, Doppler and Piazzolla.

The children at all three concerts not only were treated to lively performances, but also were given the opportunity to draw and color during the concert, reflecting their impressions through art as the music was being performed. Photos from this memorable concert are posted below.
