Recording with the RNO
The history of the Russian National Orchestra (RNO) is itself worthy material for treatment as a screenplay. The ensemble was handpicked in 1990, representing the finest musicians from orchestras all over Russia. The RNO has made over 80 critically acclaimed albums for Virgin, Deutsche Grammophon, PentaTone and other labels, as well as numerous independent and film score recordings for composers and studios from Europe, Asia and the Americas. In its short history, it has become known as one of the finest orchestras in the world.
The RNO's recording of Peter and the Wolf and Wolf Tracks narrated by Bill Clinton, Sophia Loren and Mikhail Gorbachev won a 2004 GRAMMY Award, making it the first Russian orchestra ever to receive the music industry's highest honor. A Spanish language version narrated by Antonio Banderas was relased in 2006.
Luciano Pavarotti, Wynton Marsalis, Dave Brubeck and Ray Charles have been among the RNO's artistic partners, together with such classical luminaries as Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Evgeny Kissin, Mstislav Rostropovich, Michael Tilson Thomas, Martha Argerich and Kent Nagano.
The RNO has been called "a major miracle" and "the greatest orchestra in the world" by the American press, and "the most important cultural story of our time" and "as close to perfect as one could hope for" by the British press.
