Svetlana Rips was appointed Director of the Russian National Orchestra in 2020. She has been with the RNO since joining in 1998 as Development Manager. During her tenure, and with Svetlana’s participation and leadership, the RNO has developed programs and cultivated artistic relationships that have cemented its reputation as one of the world’s leading orchestras, acclaimed for its artistic accomplishments and professional standards. These include the RNO Grand Festival which opens the Moscow concert season, the Magic of Music charity program benefiting special needs and orphaned children, and Cultural Allies, renowned for promoting international understanding through music.
Prior to joining the RNO, Svetlana managed foreign affairs and touring for the Moscow State Classical Ballet, and organized international arts conferences sponsored by the Open Society Foundations. A Moscow native, Svetlana earned degrees in arts management from the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts and from Amsterdam University, where she was a Marcel-Hicter Foundation grant recipient.
