Stéphane Denève

Stéphane Denève, now recognized internationally as an exciting young conductor of the highest caliber, will become Music Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in September 2005.

Mr. Denève’s schedule for 2004-2005 and beyond includes engagements with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lyon, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. In North America, he returns to Washington’s National Symphony, the Toronto Symphony, Houston Symphony and St. Louis Symphony, and he makes debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Minnesota Orchestra, and the Detroit, Indianapolis and Seattle symphony orchestras. He will also make his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and at the Amsterdam Opera.

In recent seasons, Stéphane Denève has conducted such orchestras as the Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Sydney and Melbourne symphonies, New Japan Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Philharmonic and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic. He has also conducted productions at the Paris National Opera, and Pelléas et Mélisande, Erwartung, Carmen and Bluebeard’s Castle at Cincinnati Opera.

A graduate of the Paris Conservatory, where he was awarded a unanimous First Prize in 1995, Stéphane Denève began his career as Sir Georg Solti’s assistant for Bluebeard’s Castle with the Orchestre de Paris (1995) and Don Giovanni at the Paris National Opera (1996). In December 1997 Stéphane Denève made his debut in Germany with Die Zauberflöte at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf, and was immediately engaged to join the conducting staff for two seasons.
