Principal
Olga Tomilova began her music education in Leningrad (since renamed St. Petersburg). There, in 1991, while still a student at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, she won first prize in the All-Russian Wind Instrument Competition. In 1992, she completed her studies at Gnesin, under the tutelage of Ivan Pushechnikov. Prior to 1991, she was a soloist in the Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra and the Russian Camerata. From 1991 to 2001, she was soloist and principal oboe with the Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra named for Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
From 2001 to the present, she has been principal oboe in the Russian National Orchestra. She has collaborated with leading conductors including Vladimir Fedoseyev, Evgeny Svetlanov, Mikhail Pletnev, Vladimir Jurowski, Vladimir Spivakov, Alexander Lazarev, Mstislav Rostropovich, Alexander Vedernikov, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Polyansky, Mikhail Gorenshtein, Kent Nagano, Paavo Berglund and Michel Plasson.
Olga has performed frequently with some of the world’s top instrumentalists, including Mikhail Pletnev, Nikolai Lugansky, Elisabeth Leonskaya, Hélène Grimaud, Victor Tretyakov, Yuri Bashmet, Vadim Repin, Maxim Vengerov, Nikolai Znaider, Natalia Gutman, Mischa Maisky and others. She has also participated in numerous festivals, including Moscow Fall, Russian Winter, Vladimir Spivakov Invites, and Svyatoslav Richter’s December Evenings.
During her tenure with the Bolshoi Symphony and the RNO, Olga has been recorded for radio broadcasts and for discs produced by Melodia, Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical, Decca and PentaTone.
In the realm of chamber music, she continues to be active with Seasons (Vremena Goda), Russian Camerata, and Amadeus. She teaches at the Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory and at the elite musical high school attached to the Conservatory.
