Ninth Grand Festival Draws to a Close
- Oct 3, 2017
The final concert of the ninth RNO Grand Festival took place on October 2 and featured a performance of Dargomyzhsky’s opera Rusalka, as interpreted by the festival’s Artistic Director Mikhail Pletnev.
Written in 1855, the opera was based on the tragedy of the same name alluded to in a poem by Pushkin. Dargomyzhsky adapted Pushkin’s poem into a libretto and completed the story of the mermaid Rusalka (which Pushkin had not).
The opera was conducted by Pletnev in a concert performance and included the Moscow Synodal Choir, as well as the soloists Zarina Abaeva, Pyotr Migunov, Boris Rudak, Polina Shamayeva, Yana Besyadynskaya, and Nikita Tursky.
